What it is: Family counseling focuses on the family unit. There may be specific members that have the most pressing concerns, but the discussion focuses on working through family dynamics and patterns of behavior and communication. Because of its multi-faceted nature, patience and understanding are required.

Frequency: Typically meetings are once a week. Meetings may include the entire family or specific members.

Length: The first session takes roughly 90 minutes to complete. Afterwards, length varies depending on the number of participants and motivation. Generally, expect 50-90 minute sessions.

What to Expect: Family counseling is great for tight knit members who are willing to hear each other out and make changes, but are unsure on how to go about it. Family work can be great with young children and teens, who often act based on their environment.
